About Ambulyx sericeipennis Butler, 1875

Ambulyx sericeipennis, commonly known as the common gliding hawkmoth, is a moth species belonging to the family Sphingidae. It was first formally described by Arthur Gardiner Butler in 1875. This species has a distribution that ranges from northern Pakistan and northern India, extending eastward through Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, to reach central and southern China as well as Taiwan. The wingspan of adult common gliding hawkmoths measures between 95 and 124 mm. This species is visually similar to Ambulyx maculifera. Recorded host plants for the larvae of Ambulyx sericeipennis include Juglans regia, Engelhardia spicata, species in the genera Elaeocarpus, Quercus, and Rhus, as well as Myrica nagi and Betula alnoides.
