About Ambrosia monogyra (Torr. & A.Gray) Strother & B.G.Baldwin

Ambrosia monogyra is a shrub that reaches 1–4 meters (3.3–13.1 feet) in height. Its leaves are very thin and thread-like, arranged alternately on stems, and are sometimes divided into additional thread-like lobes. Staminate flowers of this species have translucent white corollas, while pistillate flowers develop into rounded, fruit-bearing structures. The fruit produced is an achene marked by a single whorl of several papery wings. This plant is native to the southwestern United States, where it occurs in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as to northern Mexico, where it grows in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and Sonora. Its known habitats include California chaparral and woodlands in the Peninsular Ranges of Southern California and northern Baja California, and it also grows in washes and ravines within desert areas.
