This species is Amblypsilopus scintillans (Loew, 1861). It has sexual dimorphism in coxa color: males have black second and third coxae, while females have yellow or lighter second and third coxae. Both sexes have mostly yellow legs. In males, the second tibia has no bristles. The wing costa is of normal shape, and the body has a shiny texture. These traits distinguish this species from both A. costalis and A. pollinosus. This species lives in eastern North America.
