About Amblygobius phalaena (Valenciennes, 1837)

Amblygobius phalaena, commonly known as the Sleeper Banded goby and the white-barred goby, is a species of goby. It is native to tropical reefs found across the western Pacific Ocean and the central Indo-Pacific region, where it occurs at depths ranging from 2 to 20 metres (6.6 to 65.6 ft). This species feeds by taking in mouthfuls of sand, then sifting out algae, invertebrates and other organic matter from the sand. This goby can grow up to 15 centimetres (5.9 in) in total length. It holds minor importance for local commercial fisheries, and is also available in the aquarium trade.
