About Amblyeleotris periophthalma (Bleeker, 1853)
Amblyeleotris periophthalma (Bleeker, 1853) is a small fish that reaches a maximum length of 8 centimeters (3.1 inches). It has an elongated, cylindrical body. Its base body color is whitish, marked with wide brown stripes that vary in color intensity between individual fish. Many small brown spots are scattered across the fish, concentrated mostly on the upper half of its body. This species has round, prominent eyes, and a large mouth shaped like an inverted "U". Amblyeleotris periophthalma lives on sandy substrates in lagoons or on outer reef slopes. It occurs at depths ranging from 3 to 35 meters (9.8 to 114.8 feet), and is most commonly found between 10 and 20 meters (33 and 66 feet) deep.
