About Amazonetta brasiliensis (J.F.Gmelin, 1789)
This duck species, Amazonetta brasiliensis, has a light brown overall plumage. Males (drakes) can be told apart from females by their red beaks and legs, as well as a distinct pale grey patch on the sides of the head and neck. Females have much duller colored beaks and legs than drakes. This species is found across eastern South America, with a range that extends from central Brazil south to Uruguay, and north and east into Argentina; it also occurs in Paraguay, central Venezuela, northeastern Peru, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, eastern Bolivia, and eastern Colombia. Its preferred habitat is inland freshwater bodies located away from the coast, that have dense surrounding vegetation.
