About Amazona autumnalis (Linnaeus, 1758)

The red-lored amazon, with the scientific name Amazona autumnalis (Linnaeus, 1758), measures 32–35 centimetres (13–14 inches) in length and weighs 310–480 grams. Its plumage is mostly green, with a red forehead, a blue crown, and yellow cheeks that sometimes have red spots in some subspecies. There are no visible plumage differences between adult males and adult females. Compared to adults, juvenile red-lored amazons have less yellow on the cheeks, less red on the forehead, and dark irises. In the wild, the food of red-lored amazons includes fruits, nuts, and seeds. Like all parrots, captive red-lored amazons require a varied diet: this diet should consist of high quality pellets, a quality seed mix, and daily servings of fresh, bird-safe fruits and vegetables.
