About Amantis nawai Shiraki, 1908

This species is scientifically named Amantis nawai Shiraki, 1908. Females of the species measure 15โ€“20 millimetres (0.59โ€“0.79 in) in length, and are micropterous. Males measure 13โ€“17 millimetres (0.51โ€“0.67 in) in length, and may be either micropterous or macropterous. This species is distributed across China, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, South Korea, and the Japanese islands of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. Its habitat includes the forest floor and low trees, where it feeds on insects such as ants. It is often found growing around Machilus thunbergii, Castanopsis sieboldii, and other lush shaded vegetation under broadleaf evergreen trees, near large rocks. Its oothecae are located on rocks and tree bark.
