About Amanita virgineoides Bas
Amanita virgineoides Bas produces medium-sized to large basidiocarps. The cap is 7โ15 cm (3โ6 inches) wide, with a shape ranging from convex to applanate, and sometimes concave. It is white, covered with white, conical to pyramid-shaped volval remnants that are 1โ3 mm (1โ16โ1โ8 inch) in both height and width. The cap margin is smooth and appendiculate, and the inner context is white and does not change color when cut or damaged. The gills are free to subfree, and range from white to cream in color; short gills are attenuate. The stipe measures 10โ20 cm (4โ8 inches) long by 1.5โ3 cm (1โ2โ1 inch) thick. It is subcylindric or slightly tapers upward, is white, and covered with white floccose squamules. Its context is white. The basal bulb of the stipe is 3โ4 cm (1โ1+1โ2 inches) wide, ventricose, and shaped ovoid to subglobose, with its upper portion covered in white, verrucose to granular volval remnants. The annulus is white; its upper surface has fine radial striations, while its lower surface has verrucose to conical warts. The annulus is often broken as the cap expands. Spores measure 8โ10 ร 6โ7.5 ฮผm, are broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid in shape, and amyloid. Clamp connections are common at the bases of basidia.
