About Amalosia rhombifer (Gray, 1845)

Amalosia rhombifer, commonly known as the zigzag velvet gecko, can reach a total length of 16 cm (6.3 in) when including the tail. Its dorsal side is light brown, its sides are darker brown, and its underside is white or off-white. Its limbs may be speckled, pale brown, or dark brown. This species' overall color pattern creates the appearance of a zigzag edge along its sides and tail. This gecko is native to northern Australia. Its confirmed distribution covers the Kimberley region of Western Australia, extending northward to northern Queensland. A number of individuals have also been reported from the Alice Springs region. The zigzag velvet gecko prefers wooded habitats. It is most often found under the bark of decaying trees, but it has also been recorded living in areas with rubbish or near buildings. Amalosia rhombifer is an oviparous species, meaning it reproduces by laying eggs.
