About Aloidendron ramosissimum (Pillans) Klopper & Gideon F.Sm.
This species, scientifically named Aloidendron ramosissimum (Pillans) Klopper & Gideon F.Sm., is similar in appearance to Aloidendron dichotomum, and even to the larger Aloidendron barberae, but it grows shorter in stature and has a bushier form. The plant rarely reaches over 60 centimeters, which is approximately 2 feet, in height; rare undisturbed specimens can grow between 1.22 and 1.5 meters, or between 4 and 5 feet, tall. The validity of Aloidendron ramosissimum as a separate distinct species has been debated, and it has previously been classified as both a variety and a subspecies of Aloidendron dichotomum. Aloidendron ramosissimum is endemic to the Richtersveld, an area located along the border between northwestern South Africa and southern Namibia. It grows on desert slopes, in ravines, and in some open, flat areas. Within Namibia, it occurs in the southern inland Karas Region, which is also referred to as Ilkaras, located north of the border with South Africa. Its distribution extends into South Africa's Northern Cape province, and it has been observed as far south as the area around Springbok.
