About Aloe pearsonii Schönland

Aloe pearsonii, commonly called Pearson's Aloe, is a highly distinctive and unusual aloe species. It is naturally endemic to the arid Richtersveld region, located on the border between South Africa and Namibia. This aloe grows in clusters within sandy patches of the rocky Richtersveld mountains, where it inhabits some of the hottest and driest parts of the area. Rainfall is extremely rare in this location, and rain typically only falls during the winter months. The plant may gain some additional moisture from the mists that periodically move across the area's mountainsides.
