Aloe melanacantha, A.Berger, is locally called goree. It is a rare succulent plant species that belongs to the family Asphodelaceae. It is native to the arid Namaqualand regions of western South Africa. This species is endemic to Namaqualand, located in the far west of South Africa. It has been documented growing from Nieuwoudtville in the south, extending north to the Orange River on the border of Namibia. Its natural habitats are dry shrubland and rocky areas.
