About Alasmidonta viridis (Rafinesque, 1820)
Alasmidonta viridis, commonly known as the slippershell mussel, is a mussel species belonging to Unionidae, the river mussel family. This species is distributed across the central and eastern United States, and also occurs in Ontario, Canada. While it faces threats in some portions of its overall range, the species as a whole is not considered threatened. Alasmidonta viridis lives primarily in creeks and river headwaters, but individuals have also been found in larger rivers and lakes.
