About Akera bullata O.F.Müller, 1776
This species is the sea hare Akera bullata O.F.Müller, 1776. The body of this sea hare can grow to a maximum length of about 6 cm. Its body color ranges from gray to orange, and it often has white or dark specks. Its shell is fragile, smooth, and can be either white or brown. This sea hare is not an agile swimmer. When it is disturbed, it paddles away using its broad parapodia—fleshy protrusions that are held together in a funnel shape above the head. This species is distributed from Norway to the Canary Islands, and is also found in the Mediterranean Sea. Ecologically, it is a herbivorous bottom-dwelling species that lives at depths up to 370 m, and feeds on seagrasses from the genera Zostera and Posidonia.
