About Akebia longeracemosa Matsum.
Akebia longeracemosa Matsum. is a twining, semi-evergreen climbing vine that can reach 8 meters in height. Its foliage is bright green, made up of five oblong leaflets that may take on a purple tinge during winter. In spring, it produces fragrant, cup-shaped purple-red flowers, which grow in hanging racemes up to 15 centimeters long. If cross pollination occurs between two different species or varieties, these flowers can be followed by purplish, sausage-shaped fruits. Both morphological and molecular evidence indicates that A. longeracemosa is likely a hybrid of Akebia quinata and Akebia trifoliata.
