About Agrypnus murinus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Agrypnus murinus, commonly called the mottled dingy-brown click beetle, is a species of click beetle that belongs to the subfamily Agrypninae of the family Elateridae. This beetle can be found in most of Europe, the eastern Palearctic realm, the Near East, and the Nearctic realm. The dark-brown larvae of this species develop in soil, where they feed on roots, worms, and the larvae of other insects. Adult Agrypnus murinus reach a length of 10–17 millimetres (0.39–0.67 inches). They are most commonly seen from late April to June in open areas, mountain regions, low forests, and grassland habitats, and are sometimes considered damaging to crops. The entire body of the beetle is grey-brown, marked with greyish spots, and covered in thick pubescence. Its legs and antennae are mostly reddish or dark-brown.
