About Agriphila ruricolellus Zeller, 1863
Agriphila ruricolellus (also referred to as Agriphila ruricolella), commonly called the lesser vagabond sod webworm, is a species of moth belonging to the family Crambidae. It was first described by Philipp Christoph Zeller in 1863. This moth is found in North America, where it has been recorded ranging from Quebec and Maine in the northeast, south to South Carolina, west to Arizona, and north to Alberta. Its typical habitats include grasslands, weedy areas, fields, and cultivated areas. The wingspan of adult individuals measures 18 to 20 mm. The larvae of this species feed on a wide variety of grasses, as well as Rumex acetosella. Agriphila ruricolellus spends the winter in its larval stage.
