About Agriocnemis splendidissima Laidlaw, 1919
This is a small damselfly species with greenish eyes capped with black. Its thorax is black on the dorsal surface and blue on the sides, and adult individuals develop a pruinose white covering over these areas. Its abdomen is very slender, marked with black and pruinose blue. In sub-adults and juvenile males, these blue areas are ground-red instead. The anal appendages are long, narrow, and curve downward when viewed from the side. In young damselflies, the anal appendages match the surrounding ground color, and turn blue as the individual ages. Females have the same marking pattern as males, but are more robust, and are greenish yellow or reddish, similar to the coloration of young males. This species breeds in marshes and ponds, and is typically found in stream riparian zones and among emergent vegetation in shallow streams.
