About Agonopterix lythrella Walsingham, 1889
Agonopterix lythrella is a moth species belonging to the family Depressariidae. It was first described by Thomas de Grey in 1889. This moth is found in North America, where it has been officially recorded in Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. The wingspan of this species is approximately 15 mm. Its forewings are tawny-reddish, dusted with fuscous, and pale cinereous toward the costa. It has a pale cinereous basal patch with a distinct spot on its lower half. There is also a curved black spot positioned before the middle of the wing, which is edged with reddish and followed by cinereous scales. The hindwings of Agonopterix lythrella are brownish-grey. The larvae of this species feed on Lythrum alatum, Hypericum punctatum, and Hypericum virginicum.
