About Aglia tau Linnaeus, 1758
This species has the scientific name Aglia tau Linnaeus, 1758. Its larvae feed primarily on European beech, and will also feed on birch, Alnus glutinosa, Salix caprea, and Sorbus aucuparia. In their earlier instars, Aglia tau larvae look similar to the caterpillars of the Royal Walnut Moth, Citheronia regalis. Aglia tau can be found in older growth forests that have a large proportion of trees belonging to the Fagaceae family. It can also be found in younger riparian forests that have fewer Fagaceae species.
