About Agelastica alni (Linnaeus, 1758)

Agelastica alni, commonly called the alder leaf beetle, is a relatively small beetle that measures around 6 to 7 mm in length. It can be black or metallic blue in colour. Winged adult alder leaf beetles overwinter and emerge in the spring. This species produces one generation each year, and its larvae are normally black. While feeding damage from this beetle on alder trees can look unsightly, the trees usually tolerate this damage.
