About Agelaius humeralis (Vigors, 1827)

Agelaius humeralis, commonly called the tawny-shouldered blackbird, measures 20 cm (7.9 in) in total length. This is a highly social bird species that is entirely black, except for a distinctive brown-orange shoulder patch that gives the species its name. This shoulder patch may not be visible when the bird's wings are folded. Tawny-shouldered blackbirds have a varied diet that includes insects, seeds, nectar, fruit, and small lizards. Their natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, pastureland, and heavily degraded former forest.
