About Agave xylonacantha Salm-Dyck

Agave xylonacantha Salm-Dyck forms a basal rosette that can reach up to 180 cm (6 feet) in diameter. It produces sword-shaped leaves that grow up to 90 cm (3 feet) long and 7.5 cm (3 inches) across. Each leaf ends in a terminal spine that is roughly 4 to 5 cm (1.6 to 2 inches) long. The leaf margins bear spines up to 3 cm (1.2 inches) across, which gives the margins an undulating, wavy appearance. Its flowering stalks can grow as tall as 3.3 m (11 feet). The flowers are up to 3.5 cm (1.5 inches) in diameter, and have greenish tepals. Two known cultivars of this species exist: 'Frostbite', which has creamy yellow leaf edges, and 'Blue', which has blue-green leaves.
