About Agave mitis Mart.
Agave mitis (scientific name Agave mitis Mart.) is a plant species native to the Mexican states of Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí. Many publications refer to this species as Agave celsii. Agave mitis grows rosettes of fleshy leaves that range in color from blue-green to yellow-green and reach up to 60 cm (2 feet) in length. Its leaves bear soft brown spines, which are far less prominent than the spines of other agave species. The species produces a flowering stalk that grows up to 2.5 m (8 feet) tall. Its flowers are pressed closely against the flowering stem, forming a narrow, compact column that is much more compact than the flowering structures of most other agave species. The flowers themselves are green, and each flower can reach up to 60 mm (2.4 inches) in length. Since this species is widespread and occurs in several protected areas, the IUCN does not classify it as a threatened species.
