About Agathemera elegans (Philippi, 1863)

Agathemera elegans, commonly known as the elegant chinchemolle, is a species of stick insect that belongs to the family Agathemeridae. This species is native to the Andes Mountains of Chile, where it occurs at elevations of 1500 meters above sea level. For self-defense, A. elegans can secrete a defensive spray that is capable of causing temporary blindness in targets. The main component of this species' defensive secretion is 4-methyl-1-hepten-3-one.
