This species, Agama planiceps Peters, 1862, displays striking sexual dimorphism. Males have contrasting orange and blue coloration, while females have dappled, checkered patterning in shades of brown, grey, and yellow. This species occurs in the Benguela and Namibe provinces of Angola, and in the Damaraland and Kaokoveld regions of Namibia.
