Agama aculeata Merrem, 1820 has a snout-to-vent length ranging from 76 to 100 mm. This agama has a triangular head and a rounded snout. Its dorsal coloration ranges from olive to reddish-brown, and it may sometimes appear grey or yellowish. Its belly ranges from a light creamy-white to pink. The back holds four or five pairs of darker blotches, and many smaller blotches extend down the length of the tail. Breeding males develop blue coloration on the sides of their heads.
