About Agalychnis annae (Duellman, 1963)
The blue-sided leaf frog, with the scientific name Agalychnis annae, is also commonly called the orange-eyed leaf frog. It is an endangered species of tree frog belonging to the subfamily Phyllomedusinae, native to the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica and Panama. Its specific scientific epithet annae honors Ann S. Duellman, who collected the species holotype and was the wife of the species original describer. This tree frog is only confirmed to occur in Costa Rica's Central Valley, on the slopes of the Cordillera de Talamanca, Cordillera de Tilarán, and Cordillera Central mountain ranges, at elevations ranging from roughly 600 to 1,650 meters (2,000 to 5,400 feet). The total estimated extent of its confirmed range is around 16,000 square kilometers (6,178 square miles). A 2012 record of a single female individual found in the Cerro Colorado range of western Panama suggests a possible separate subpopulation may exist there. Much of the forest that this frog inhabits has been cleared, leaving multiple isolated subpopulations separated by coffee plantations, cultivated land, and urban areas.
