About Afrolittorina knysnaensis (R.A.Philippi, 1847)

This species has the accepted scientific name Afrolittorina knysnaensis (R.A.Philippi, 1847). The shell of this species measures between 9 mm and 15 mm in size. Shell color ranges from brown with a dotted pattern and a dark ring around each whorl, to solid pure black. The shell itself is smooth, shaped conically, and has a short spire. Its aperture is subcircular, and bears a transparent, horny operculum. This is a marine species distributed along the coast from Namibia to Southern KwaZulu-Natal, and can also be found in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Réunion.
