About Aethopyga temminckii (S.Muller, 1843)
Temminck's sunbird, with the scientific name Aethopyga temminckii, is a species of sunbird. It lives in tropical moist montane forests at altitudes up to 1800 m, found across Borneo, Sumatra, West Malaysia, and southwestern Thailand. Both this bird's common name and Latin binomial honor Coenraad Jacob Temminck, a Dutch aristocrat and zoologist. This species has previously been considered conspecific with the Javan sunbird Aethopyga mystacalis. Adult Temminck's sunbirds range from 10 cm in length for females to 12.5 cm in length for males. The longer-tailed male is predominantly scarlet, aside from a greyish belly, yellow and purple bands between the back and tail, and four purple bands on the head that radiate out from the beak. The female is a drab olive color, with only rufous fringes on its wing and tail feathers as a deviation from this base color.
