About Aethopyga ignicauda (Hodgson, 1836)

The fire-tailed sunbird, with the scientific name Aethopyga ignicauda, is a sunbird species that belongs to the family Nectariniidae. This species is found in the northern Indian subcontinent, where it is primarily located in the Himalayas. It also occurs in some adjacent regions of Southeast Asia, specifically in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Tibet. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Males of the species grow to 15 centimeters in total length when including their long tail. Females are approximately two-thirds the length of males. Fire-tailed sunbirds inhabit conifer forests at altitudes up to 4,000 meters, and they descend into valleys during the cold season. Their diet includes both insects and nectar. Both parents share responsibility for feeding the species' young.
