About Aethiessa floralis (Fabricius, 1787)

Aethiessa floralis reaches an adult body length of roughly 10–25 millimetres, or 0.39–0.98 inches. Its base body color is a shiny black-brown, with quite variable whitish markings that are mostly located along its lateral margins. Adult Aethiessa floralis are active from May through September. They feed primarily on the flowers of thistles in the genus Silybum, and will also feed on Echium italicum. This species occurs in Italy, Spain, and Slovenia, as well as across North Africa from Morocco to Libya. These beetles favor sunny or arid habitats.
