About Aethes smeathmanniana (Fabricius, 1781)

Aethes smeathmanniana, commonly known as Smeathmann's aethes moth, is a species of moth in the family Tortricidae. It was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1781. This moth can be found across most of Europe, Asia Minor, and North America; in North America, it has been recorded in New Jersey and Newfoundland and Labrador. The wingspan of adult Aethes smeathmanniana measures 12–19 millimetres, which equals 0.47–0.75 inches. Adults are active and fly from May to August each year. The larvae of this moth feed on the seeds of multiple plant species. Confirmed host plants include Achillea millefolium, various Centaurea species, Anthemis cotula, Centaurea nigra, and Lactuca sativa.
