Aesculus sylvatica, commonly known as the painted buckeye, is a shrub species. It produces leaves that are grouped into sets of five leaflets; each leaflet measures 4.5 to 6 inches (11 to 15 cm) in length, and 1.5 to 2.5 inches (3.8 to 6.4 cm) in width. Its flowers are yellow, and occasionally they also show red coloration. This species has dry fruit and brown, scaly bark. It commonly grows in forests and along stream banks. Both the shrub itself and its seeds are poisonous.
