About Adscita statices (Linnaeus, 1758)
This species has a wingspan of 25–28 millimetres (0.98–1.10 in). Its antennae, head, thorax, legs and abdomen are shiny green; the thorax may occasionally be shimmering blue green. In early morning and evening, its wings can appear rusty-red. Its wide forewings are less glossy than the body, and are mostly blue green, sometimes ranging from green to yellow green. The forewing fringes are blackish grey. The hindwings are moderately wide with a slightly truncated edge. They are slightly transparent, blackish grey, and lighter in color towards the base. The underside of both pairs of wings is grey. Caterpillars are pale yellowish-green, with a central dark stripe and fine white hairs on their dorsal side. The wings of the green forester contain two types of colored scales. One of these scale types has pores of different sizes, which can fill with water. This causes the scales' color to change from green to rusty-red. This species is distributed across Europe, extending to Turkey and the Caucasus Mountains.
