About Adhemarius eurysthenes C.Felder & R.Felder, 1874
Adhemarius eurysthenes is a moth species belonging to the Sphingidae family. It was described by C. Felder and R. Felder in 1874, and is found in Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay. This species is similar to Adhemarius palmeri, but can be distinguished by several physical traits: the subbasal band on the forewing upperside is complete and irregular along its proximal margin, the antemedian oblique line is very narrow, nearly transverse, and reaches the costa just distal to the subbasal band, and the subapical patch is smaller and shaped like a blunt triangle. The marginal band on the hindwing upperside is also narrower in A. eurysthenes than in A. palmeri. There are likely at least two generations of this moth each year, with peak flight activity occurring in February, and again from July to August. The larvae are thought to feed on species in the Ocotea and Persea genera; recorded Ocotea host species include Ocotea veraguensis, Ocotea atirrensis, and Ocotea dendrodaphne.
