Adelphicos quadrivirgatum is a small species of snake. Mature females can reach a total length of 36.5 cm (14.4 in), with a tail that measures 5.5 cm (2.2 in) long. On its dorsal side, this snake is pale reddish brown, marked with four or five narrow, blackish stripes. On its ventral side, it is whitish, with a brown stripe running along the center of the tail. This species occurs in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico. In Mexico, its range extends south from the states of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, reaching through San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Oaxaca to Chiapas. Adelphicos quadrivirgatum lives in tropical and subtropical wet and moist forests, at elevations ranging from sea level up to 1,740 m (5,710 ft). It is frequently found underneath logs. This species reproduces by laying eggs, meaning it is oviparous.
