About Adela trigrapha Zeller, 1875

Adela trigrapha is a moth species belonging to the family Adelidae, which are commonly called fairy longhorn moths. It was described by Zeller, with the year currently cited as 1876, and is distributed in western North America, ranging from Vancouver Island to California. The forewing length of adults is 5.5 to 6.2 millimeters. Adult males of this species have large eyes and long white antennae that are three times the length of the forewings. Their forewings are black, and most individuals have three white lines crossing the forewings. Females are smaller than males, and have smaller eyes and shorter antennae. Female moths have a bright orange head, bright metallic blue forewings, and purple hindwings. It is thought that the larvae of Adela trigrapha feed on Leptosiphon androsaceus and Leptosiphon bicolor.
