About Adela flammeusella Chambers, 1876

Adela flammeusella is a species of moth that belongs to Adelidae, the family commonly called fairy longhorn moths. It was first described by Vactor Tousey Chambers in 1876. This moth occurs in the United States, with a range extending from southern Washington southward into the foothills and interior valleys of most of cismontane California. The forewings of this species measure between 5 and 6 millimeters in length. Both male and female individuals have metallic purple hindwings. Adult moths are active in flight from late March through early June. The larvae of Adela flammeusella are thought to feed on various species in the genera Orthocarpus and/or Castilleja.
