About Adejeania vexatrix (Osten Sacken, 1877)

Adejeania vexatrix is a species of fly belonging to the family Tachinidae. This species occurs in western North America, ranging from Mexico north to British Columbia. It can be identified by several distinct features: a bright orange abdomen, prominent heavy black setae, and greatly elongated palpi that extend straight forward from underneath its head. There are two other tachinid fly species that have a similar appearance to Adejeania vexatrix. The first, Hystricia abrupta, is found in the eastern United States, and it lacks the elongated mouthparts that characterize A. vexatrix. The second similar species is Paradejeania rutilioides.
