About Adeia whitneyi (A.Gray) G.L.Nesom

Adeia whitneyi, commonly called Whitney's bristleweed, is a North American shrub species belonging to the daisy family. It has only been found within the state of California in the western United States. It is a perennial herb or subshrub that can grow up to 50 cm (20 inches) tall. The plant produces numerous flower heads arranged in a dense, elongated cluster at its apex. Each flower head holds 8 to 10 disc flowers and has no ray flowers. This species sometimes grows on serpentine soils. The species was first published under the name Haplopappus whitneyi by Asa Gray in 1868. In 2021, Guy L. Nesom moved the species to the newly established genus Adeia, and raised its former subspecies discoidea to the status of a separate species, Adeia discoidea.
