About Adaina ambrosiae (Murtfeldt, 1880)
Adaina ambrosiae, commonly known as the ambrosia plume moth or ragweed plume moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Pterophoridae. Its scientific name is Adaina ambrosiae (Murtfeldt, 1880). This moth is distributed across North America, ranging from California eastward to Florida, and northward to Ontario. It is also recorded in Bermuda, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The wingspan of adult moths measures 13 to 17 millimetres, or 0.51 to 0.67 inches. In the southern portion of the species' range, adult moths can be found in flight nearly year-round. The larvae of Adaina ambrosiae feed on a variety of plant species: Ambrosia artemissiifolia, Ambrosia acanthicarpa, Ambrosia chamissonis, Ambrosia confertiflora, Ambrosia dumosa, Ambrosia eriocentra, Ambrosia cumanensis, Pluchea rosea, Melanthera nivea, Helianthus annuus, Helianthus tuberosa, Xanthium strumarium, and Cynara scolymus.
