About Actizera lucida (Trimen, 1883)
Actizera lucida, commonly known as the rayed blue, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Lycaenidae. Its distribution range extends from eastern and southern Africa to Kenya, and it is also found on Madagascar. Within South Africa, it is widespread, occurring from West Cape through to Orange Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo Province, and North West Province. Males of this species have a wingspan of 15 to 23 millimeters, while females have a slightly larger wingspan of 17 to 25 millimeters. Adult Actizera lucida are active year-round, though they are much more commonly encountered during the summer season. The larvae of this butterfly feed on Oxalis, Argyrolobium, Rhynchosia, and Crotolaria lanceolata.
