Actina chalybea Meigen, 1804 is a species of fly. Adult body length reaches 7.5–8.5 millimetres, which equals 0.30–0.33 inches. These flies have a metallic green thorax. Their head is quite large and rounded, with small black antennae that point forward. The palps are clearly visible. The eyes are green; in males the eyes are almost contiguous, while in females they are clearly separated. The forehead and thorax are covered with long black hairs. The scutellum has four black spines. The abdomen is flattened, and the legs are black with partially yellow femora. This species is present across most of Europe. Adult flies prefer shady, moist habitats.
