About Acrotriche divaricata R.Br.
Acrotriche divaricata is an erect, spreading, bushy shrub that typically reaches a height of 0.6 to 2 meters (2 feet 0 inches to 6 feet 7 inches). Its leaves are held at roughly 90ยฐ to the stem. The leaves are usually lance-shaped, though some are oblong to elliptic, measure 6โ16 mm (0.24โ0.63 in) long and 1.7โ4.2 mm (0.067โ0.165 in) wide, and end in a sharp point. Flowers are arranged in spikes that hold 3 to 5 green or cream-colored flowers. Each flower has bracteoles 0.5โ0.9 mm (0.020โ0.035 in) long at the base of the sepals. Sepals are 1.4โ2.8 mm (0.055โ0.110 in) long. The petals are joined at the base to form a tube 1.3โ1.9 mm (0.051โ0.075 in) long, with petal lobes 1.0โ1.3 mm (0.039โ0.051 in) long. Flowering occurs mostly between July and September. The fruit is a more or less spherical, fleshy red drupe around 3 mm (0.12 in) in diameter. This Acrotriche species is most often found in sheltered forest or rainforest, and mainly grows on the coast and ranges of New South Wales, south of Newcastle. A similar species, Acrotriche leucocarpa, which has pearly white fruit, grows in Victoria.
