About Acronicta innotata Guenée, 1852

Acronicta innotata, commonly known as the unmarked dagger moth or birch dagger, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. It was first formally described by Achille Guenée in 1852. This species ranges geographically from Newfoundland to British Columbia in Canada, and is also present in the adjacent northern states of the United States; in the eastern portion of its range, it extends south as far as North Carolina and Kentucky. The wingspan of adult Acronicta innotata measures between 35 and 40 mm. Adults are active in flight from May to August, with the timing varying based on location. The caterpillar larvae of this species feed on the leaves of alder, birch, cherry, hickory, poplar, and willow trees.
