About Acrobasis tricolorella Grote, 1878

Acrobasis tricolorella, commonly called the destructive prune worm or tricolored acrobasis moth, is a species of snout moth belonging to the genus Acrobasis. This species was first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1878. It is found in southern Canada and the northern United States. Adult moths are active in flight between June and October. The larvae of Acrobasis tricolorella feed on Prunus, Malus pumila, Prunus armeniaca, Sorbus americana, Rosa, Amelanchier, and Heteromeles arbutifolia, consuming the buds and fruits of their host plants. Larvae also perform leaf rolling behavior. This species overwinters while in the larval stage.
