It was first described by Johann Leopold Theodor Friedrich Zincken in 1818, and is found in Europe. The wingspan of this moth ranges from 19 to 24 mm. The moth has one generation per year, with adults flying from June to September. Its caterpillars feed preferentially on blackthorn.
