About Acrobasis angusella Grote, 1880

Acrobasis angusella, commonly called the hickory leafstem borer or simply leafstem borer, is a species of snout moth. It was first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1880. This moth is found in Quebec, Canada, and the northeastern region of the United States. Its wingspan measures approximately 18 millimeters. Adult moths are active from May through September. The larvae of this species feed on plants in the Carya genus, specifically including Carya glabra, Carya ovalis, and Carya tomentosa. Larvae bore into the leaf stems of their host plants, which causes the leaves to fall off.
